Unicornucopia Book Cover

Unicornucopia

A new novel by Paul Shoebridge.

Allen is on the brink of going to jail for blasting a butchered cow head with a stolen shotgun. But it was all in the pursuit of art. You see, Allen is a conceptual artist. And he’s broke, and it doesn’t help that his lawyer - and best friend - is trying to seduce his girlfriend. Heedless of the looming crisis, Allen presses on to create his most scandalous masterpiece yet.

Unicornucopia is part tangled adventure and part quixotic love story. Set in Toronto’s Parkdale, and full of colourful characters, it captures a tumultuous two weeks in the life of its slacker hero before his world changes forever.

About the Author

Paul Shoebridge lives in Toronto, not ten miles from where he was born, and very close to where this book is set. He studied at Montreal's McGill University, and lived in London, England, where he worked as a night porter, restaurateur, and asbestos investigator. He’s also worked as a software salesman, and shot whiskey ads for urinal screens.

Paul has played historical characters in made-for-TV documentary recreations, and once accidentally hugged the actor, Alan Arkin. He wrote and directed the feature film Jigsaw, starring one of Canada’s first video jockeys, Erica Ehm. But what has most influenced his writing is the fifteen years he spent studying, playing and teaching improvisational and sketch comedy at the Second City Training Centre in Toronto.

Unicornucopia is his first novel.
